Steps and Stoops
Front steps and stoops cast over frost-protected footings. Tooled non-slip finish, integrated railings, salt-resistant sealer.
What We Offer
Steps that do not lift, crack or wobble
Step failures in Edmonton are almost always a footing problem. The original installer placed a slab directly on soil and the first hard winter heaved it.
River Valley Contracting excavates to 1.2 m frost depth and pours spread footings on compacted granular base. Air-entrained concrete (5 to 7%) handles freeze-thaw without surface scaling.
Hand railings anchored to the concrete with stainless mechanical fixings, not surface-mounted. Salt-resistant silane-siloxane sealer applied at install and again at 28-day check.

Frequently asked
Common questions
How long does step replacement take?
5 to 7 working days from break-out to handover, plus the 28-day cure before final sealer.
Concrete vs stone treads — which lasts?
Both can last the life of the building if frost-protected. Stone wears more gracefully; concrete is easier to repair if damaged.
Can you match existing brick or stone on the house?
Concrete pigment-toned to match brick, or stone sourced to complement the house. Samples provided.
What about ice-melt salt?
Air-entrained concrete with silane-siloxane sealer handles standard ice-melt. We recommend CMA over rock salt, especially first winter.
Do you handle handrails?
Yes. Stainless anchors set in the pour. Wrought-iron, aluminium and powder-coated steel rails available.
Do I need a permit?
Grade-level steps under 600 mm: no. Taller split-level or exterior basement stairs: yes. We tell you during the site visit.
