Parking lots designed for the traffic they carry

Commercial lots in Edmonton take heavy delivery-truck loads, larger drainage areas, and accessibility marking. River Valley Contracting builds commercial paving as commercial paving, not scaled-up driveway work.

Three modes: new-build on greenfield sites (250 to 350 mm granular base, HL3 surface, HL8 binder beneath); mill-and-overlay for sound-base lots; full reconstruction for failed lots.

Drainage is the longest-life decision. Positive falls toward catch basins, inlets sized for Edmonton storm events, ties into storm sewer where needed.

Common questions

Which option do I need?

Cores in good condition with surface failure → mill-and-overlay. Failing base → full reconstruction. Greenfield → new build.

Can the lot stay open?

Most mill-and-overlay can be done with single-lane closures. Full reconstruction usually needs overnight or weekend windows.

What about snow plowing on new asphalt?

New asphalt should not be plowed for 6 weeks while the binder fully sets. We schedule pours to finish before snow.

When can line marking go on?

Thermoplastic 14 to 28 days; cold-applied paint after 7. We schedule the marking sub-contractor.

How long does a typical lot take?

A 2000 m² lot is 5 to 7 working days for mill-and-overlay, 2 to 3 weeks for full reconstruction.

Do you handle permits?

For city-street connections, yes — coordinate development permit and engineering review.
